In 2006, a turnaround in business came about when Deutsche Connectors, looking to set up a manufacturing base in India, tied up with Omni Matrix which remained a contract manufacturer for it, for Suzy cables or Jumper cables that connect the tractor of the truck to the trailer, for about six years and supplied about 40,000 cables a month. Since Deutsche Connectors was a major player in Europe, Omni Matrix products reached 65 per cent of the European market. In 2012, Deutsche Connectors transferred the entire IP and business to Omni Matrix, enabling the latter to sell the product under its own brand name.

Target 2020 – Global Reach

Keeping the context alive, the Managing Director of Omni Matrix, Mr. Rajesh H. Chabria, says: “The company wants to become a global player by 2020. The other objective is to expand our product range to cater to the truck industry. We wish to strengthen our engineering to get into product development.”

It helps that almost all the OEMs present in India are serviced by Omni Matrix. Having gained success on the home front, the big dream now is, “to move into the European market to service the OEMs there whose Indian counterparts are already our customers.”

Having led this 20-year-old company through some tough times, Mr. Chabria knows that achieving this dream may be difficult, not impossible. The main challenge would be how to manage logistics there and the just-in-time concept. The second is that the Indian testing standards are not accepted around the globe, despite the products being 100 per cent compliant with the ISO standards and norms.”

Already, a couple of European OEMs present in India have accepted the products, and at least one of them has recommended Omni Matrix to their European counterpart for which the RFQ process is already underway.

New products

Servicing bus segment besides catering to trucks with a new product is but one idea. Mr. Chabria shares: “We are looking at battery cut-off switch and braking tubes. Once we finish developing it fully and getting it qualified by this year end, we will approach the OEMs to offer them these products to work in Indian markets and correspondingly look at the European market.”

It is almost a given that Omni Matrix shall succeed in their growth plan owing to the fact that they are the biggest manufacturers of the range of products in India.

High optimism

Opting for an aggressive stance even when the market is positive, which is likely to remain so in the next few years, Omni Matrix is in a bid to build its engineering strength, marketing muscle and expand its capacity outside India. Mr. Chabria explains: “We wish to bring down our prices and keep ourselves competitive at all times.”
