MG Group, India’s largest privately-owned bus builder, and Greaves Cotton, the country’s largest supplier of three-wheeler engines, have come together to develop a highly innovative and eye-catching product – the E3 electric three-wheeler – at Auto Expo – Motor Show 2018.
We spoke to Mr. Anil Kamat, Managing Director, MG Group, shares details with us about the E3 project:
On what the E3 is all about.
The E3 is a concept vehicle for last mile connectivity for passenger travel, the body and packaging of which is designed by West & Deccan and engineered by MG Composites. The Electric Powertrain is powered by Greaves Cotton, a leading fuel agnostic powertrain solutions & services player in last mile mobility in India.
The E3 comes with a powerful electric drivetrain and promises to deliver a completely emission-free and noiseless operation. The high-end composites body, which is corrosion-free and noise-free, gives complete driver convenience and passenger comfort. That apart, the vehicle comes loaded with many conveniences for the driver and passengers such as LED saloon light for good visibility and ambience, multi-functional mobile app configuration for a variety of features such as battery life, temperature, navigation, ergonomically-designed seats for passenger comfort and widescreen road view.
The E3 has been conceptualized and engineered by MG Group’s own design house West & Deccan that specializes in developing & engineering solutions for commercial vehicle applications. The body has been made with specially engineered composite panels with advanced technology (VPI – Vacuum Press Infusion Technology) produced in MG Composites, a fully integrated composites producer with in-house design, pattern making, tooling and mass production facilities with a capacity of 5000 tons per annum.
On what MG Group is trying to communicate to the industry with the prototype.
MG is an application designer and builder with specific expertise in the field of composites. Greaves is an expert and a leading player in the three-wheeler engines sector. The E3 is a concept which has been developed to demonstrate our respective strengths in the above mentioned areas of expertise and has been designed to prove our capabilities and in-turn supply to our esteemed OEM partners in the electric three-wheeler segment. The E3 is a joint statement of passion by MG and Greaves, both catering to the commercial vehicle segment of the industry, albeit at different ends of the spectrum.
