Interacting with MOTORINDIA exclusively, Mr. Jasveer Singh, CEO, ITS, said: “The company was floated by my elder brother Mr. Rajbir Singh Chaudhry, who has 25-30 years of rich experience in the logistics sector, in 2004. When I joined in 2012, the turnover of the company was Rs. 5 crores and last fiscal it became a Rs. 100 crore-firm. We are projecting a turnover of Rs. 135 crores by FY 2016-17. Plans are also afoot to have a fleet strength of 1,000 (containerized) trucks by 2020 and by then we plan to achieve a turnover of Rs. 500 crores.”

Currently, ITS owns a fleet of 500 vehicles with all of them being close body containers. As Mr. Singh pointed out: “We have a vehicle range starting from Tata Ace/14 feet/17/20/24/32 SXL/32 MXLs to 40 feet trailers catering to different needs of our varied customers. The average life span of our vehicles is 10 years. Even though we source vehicles from all the leading OEMs, we also have an in-house body building facility and are also getting it built from fabricators. Unlike typical logistics players, we don’t deploy our vehicles to the market (on direct bookings) as we have long-term agreements with our clients to provide to and fro movements of goods. We are into both long haul transportation like Delhi-Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Calcutta, Pune, Mumbai, etc., and short haul services working in regional sectors like the entire north India.”

Meanwhile, there are close to 900 drivers working for ITS on a contract basis. Talking about its drivers’ welfare, Mr. Singh maintained: “We train them thoroughly and treat them very well.  We have a mega stockyard of 3 acres at Bilaspur where we can accommodate 200-300 drivers at a time and park 200-300 vehicles in one go. We can service almost 30 vehicles per shift. We are also planning to open a Driver Training Academy in the next two-three years and are seeking a joint initiative with the Govt. We will train & assist them for both (applying for) new and renewal of licenses. We will work with Regional Transport Authority on that front.”

When asked to share some insights about the domestic transport sector, he stated: “It is evolving over the years as many professional players are also entering this industry. This sector accounts for 6-7% of the country’s GDP and is expected to go up further. I think by 2030, ours will be a complete organised sector as everybody is working in that direction. We would also need some assistance from the Govt.”
