BorgWarner to supply Visctronic Fan Drives to BharatBenz trucks

BorgWarner will supply Visctronic fan drives for BharatBenz heavy-duty trucks built by Daimler India Commercial Vehicles. Powered by engines based on Daimler Technology Platforms, these trucks are designed for long-haulage applications. BorgWarner’s electronically controlled variable speed Visctronic fan drives with high speed reservoir respond directly to engine cooling needs, providing precisely the right amount of cooling at the right time for increased performance, improved fuel economy and lower emissions.

BorgWarner’s Visctronic® fan drive

“In India, truck drivers deliver loads in tropical, temperate and desert climates over varying elevations, from plains and hills to the Himalayas. Precise, dependable cooling is critical. BorgWarner’s product-leading airflow technologies increase engine efficiency for improved fuel economy while reducing emissions to help satisfy BS IV emissions standards. Truck makers around the world depend on our company’s Visctronic fan drives. We are pleased to produce this technology in our Chennai plant in Tamil Nadu, India, providing localized manufacturing and engineering support to Daimler India Commercial Vehicles” said Mr. Daniel Paterra, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Thermal Systems.

BorgWarner’s Visctronic variable speed fan drives use specially calibrated software to communicate with the engine’s electronic control unit, continuously responding directly to the engine’s needs based on engine temperature, engine speed, vehicle speed or engine load. Even under dynamic conditions, Visctronic fan drives operate only when needed, reducing average fan speed in any given duty cycle. As engine needs change, the system responds quickly for more precise cooling than traditional fan drives. As a result, the engine runs more efficiently, delivers more horsepower, uses less fuel and emits fewer emissions. In addition, the technology features a maintenance-free design and improves driver comfort with low noise, vibration and harshness.
