NBC Bearings, the premier brand of National Engineering Industries Ltd. (NEI), has partnered ConMet of the US, a leader in vehicle component manufacturing, to launch PreSet hub assemblies in India. This tried and tested technology for lower maintenance costs and improved vehicle performance will be manufactured at the NEI facility at Durgapura in Jaipur.

The PreSet hub, with a design life of over 1.6 million km, helps rectify incorrect adjustment of bearings, minimize the risk of assembly or incorrect assembly of seals, and eliminate failures due to rotation of the inner rings of the axle.

Bearings are set with precise control over hub, bearing and precision spacer tolerances. This level of accuracy is nearly impossible to achieve in shop environments using manual bearing adjustment methods. Precise bearing settings have a direct correlation to the life of the bearing itself, and are essential for maximum service life.

At the launch, Mr. Rohit Saboo, President and CEO, National Engineering Industries Ltd., said: “Through this technology collaboration with ConMet, we aim to address the changing needs of the Rs. 600-crore heavy vehicle industry where they require extended service intervals and at the same reduction of critical component failures. PreSet hubs will help save maintenance costs, labour and time, and eliminate failures due to bearing’s incorrect adjustments and minimize risk of assembly damage or incorrect assembly of seals.”

Mr. Mark Wagner, Vice President, ConMet, observed: “We are delighted to bring PreSet hub assemblies to India. This technology saves considerable time for installation or dismantling in comparison to conventional wheel hubs, making it an effective choice for the modern day heavy vehicle requirement. In collaboration with NBC we are confident of replicating our success in North America.”
