Since 1991, MM Auto Industries Ltd. has been producing a wide range of springs for various applications, including the automotive sector. Over the years, the company has evolved into one of the preferred suppliers of springs for the Indian auto market, while it has also gained acceptance from customers all over the globe.

MM Auto displayed its range of products at ACMA Automechanika this year where we caught up with Mr. Tej K. Magazine, Director – Corporate Affairs, MM Auto Industries Ltd., for an exclusive interaction. Mr. Magazine started off: “This year’s ACMA Automechanika fair has been very good for us with a number of OEM customers visiting us. FY17 was not a very good year for our company since demonetization had quite a significant effect on our sales, but we feel the market is changing for the good and hope FY18 is better.”

MM Auto manufactures a complete range of precision metallic coil springs at its facilities at Manesar and Haridwar which are fully equipped with facilities and infrastructure for coiling, grinding, stress relieving, press sections, material handling, packaging & packing, quality assurance and R&D. The two manufacturing units have a combined capacity to produce around 10,000 tonnes annually, and while the currently output is close to 7,000 tonnes, the company hopes to achieve 90% capacity utilization during the current financial year.

Operating in a highly-competitive environment, MM Auto has been highly successful, thanks to its right attitude and focusing on the right aspects of the trade. “We started with springs for two-wheelers and then expanded to passenger cars, defence, railways, etc. As far as technology is concerned, we have an in-house R&D set-up with strong technical know-how. Where we make a difference from others is on our product quality, cost, consistency and delivery and, very importantly, with our customer-friendly attitude. On the export front too, attitude is very important, as also communication, since overseas customers are very sensitive to these aspects”, explained the Director.

MM Auto supplies its springs to OEMs, Tier-I suppliers and sometimes also to Tier-II companies. Apart from its standard products, it also makes customized products for customers based on the requirement. Almost 10 per cent of MM Auto’s turnover comes from the aftermarket segment, with exports accounting for another 10 per cent which it hopes to increase to 25 per cent in the near future.

“Our first export was to Indonesia and Turkey, and now we are catering to the Mexican and Brazilian markets as well. With cost of production going up in markets like Europe and Japan, we have recently bagged orders from a Japanese company who are a major supplier of specialized systems to almost all Japanese cars and have started supplying to a major passenger car manufacturer in India. We provide training and global exposure to our team on quality aspects and hope our efforts pay off with a rise in export business in the coming years”, he added.
