Lucas-TVS aims to become major player in automotive filtration market

Lucas-TVS, established in 1961 as a joint venture between Lucas Industries plc, UK, and the TVS Group, remains focussed on auto electrical components like starters, alternators, wiper motors, head lights, relays and other electro-mechanical devices. It is an original equipment supplier to most automotive companies in India for auto-electricals and has licensing agreements with Denso and Mitsubishi for various auto electrical products.

Through Lucas Indian Service (LIS), a wholly-owned subsidiary, Lucas-TVS has over 2,200 sales and service points all over India to provide the highest level of customer service. This network is by far one of the largest in the Indian automotive industry. To further extend the aftermarket presence, Lucas-TVS has embarked on an expansion program. To start with, it has introduced various products like automotive filters, horns, halogen bulbs, lub, oil, two-wheeler auto electricals, etc.

A significant part of this strategy included the manufacture and distribution of the complete range of all automotive and industrial filtration products with various applications like commercial and passenger vehicles, tractors and two-wheelers.

Lucas-TVS has a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for filtration products like oil, air and fuel filters at Pantnagar in Uttarkhand. This factory has incorporated the latest in technology using imported machinery from Korea and is highly backward integrated, thereby ensuring high level quality for the domestic, aftermarket and OES customers.

Combined with the vast R&D infrastructure that Lucas-TVS has at Padi in Chennai, this filter division is fully capable of ensuring the highest level of quality through extensive product development, testing and validation that is going to be the benchmark of aftermarket products for the future in India as well as abroad.

To educate customers on the strength in the area of filtration, Lucas-TVS has embarked on various customer interaction and marketing programs in different Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities. This involves hands-on customer contact activities and understanding the various customers and segments as well as ensuring that their products are available across the length and breadth of India.

True to the TVS culture of “Customer is King” that marks it off from others over the last so many years, Lucas-TVS strives to display this in its new filtration venture. The company aims to be a significant player in the automotive filtration market and is in the process of establishing the network for the same.
